One of the most popular scents for perfume is the scent of real roses. Traditionally, it is believed that Arab chemists were the first to find a means of producing Porter oils scent of roses. The rose oil has a very high price because it is very laborious to remove. The harvesting of cocoons is done hand before dawn and petals are used to create oil and flavoring extracts the same day. It takes many pounds of rose petals to make a single ounce of oil. So how – the rose scent used in perfume created?
There are three current methods of oil in rose petals.
- Solvent Extraction
- Extraction by steam distillation
- Thanks the elimination of carbon dioxide surface
In the method of solvent extraction, rose petals are mixed in a bucket or tub of some sort of hexane as a solvent. The hexane extracts the aroma of roses and a bit of wax and pigment. A vacuum process remove hexane, leaving a layer of wax is called mass of concrete in the perfume industry. Alcohol passes through the concrete sample the flavor unique. This mixture of alcohol is evaporated at low pressure, allowing the aroma of pure extract behind. This is Rose is called an absolute and amber to deep red in color. This is the least expensive method of eliminating odors.
Odor disposal increased by steam distillation has long silences full of rose petals and water. The still is heated for a period of time until the water vapor along with rose oil evaporates from the still and condenser, where the condensate is drained into a container. Then water is drained from the oil, leaving oil highly concentrated. The drainage water is then re-distilled extract the oil soluble in water or alcohols that exist in the water. There is also a method to achieve a combination of extractive distillation of this left on the water. These water-soluble components are mixed with oil to get the final product concentrated original oil called Rose Otto or Attar. Pink Otto is composed of approximately 20% oil and 80% water soluble products. Below is highly diluted when used in perfumery. It is pale yellow to olive green in color and crystallizes at room temperature. Bulgaria is the largest producer of Rose Otto.
Method of extracting carbon dioxide is the most expensive of the three and the price of your fragrance in May reflect this. Carbon dioxide, which is normally a gas at a pressure normal pressure until it liquefies. Rose petals are mixed with liquid carbon dioxide and heated to temperatures very low. The rest of the process is similar to the standard method of solvent extraction. When normal pressure is restored to carbon dioxide is a gas and leaves behind the flavor extracts. CO2 leaves no odor of its own back.
Much of quality control should follow the process decision and the purchase rose oil, it is not unusual for unscrupulous dilute the essential oils of geranium flower or grass palmarosa (related to geranium), or even other chemicals related to alcohol.
